Dear Diane,
Summer vacation is finally upon Canada’s Parliamentarians. How will you be spending the next twelve weeks? Perhaps you will be making your way to a favourite cottage somewhere in this beautiful country of ours or hop on a plane to a sunny destination where pristine, sandy beaches are waiting for you. After all, you and your colleagues deserve some rest and relaxation for passing not one, but two entire bills this year.
But as you kick back and lounge in the sun, I can’t help but think that a lot of unfinished business must be nagging at you, particularly coming up with a solution to a national housing emergency that is affecting 300,000 Canadians daily. Luckily, a solution in the form of Bill C-304’s national housing strategy is waiting for you and is in urgent need of being passed. I would love for you to enjoy your summer, Diane, but I also urge you to consider that homelessness never takes time off and will continue to impact all Canadians until our government takes immediate action. Use this summer to re-energize yourself for next year, Diane, but also use it to prioritize the issues that need to be addressed. Bill C-304 is waiting.
